A Message from the President
Tom Cortopassi I am very proud and excited to be the president of one of the
finest little leagues in the country.
I want to personally thank the fantastic volunteers that contributed
to a great 2007 season. Each member of the board of directors is
very proud of the progress that we made in accomplishing the league
priorities that we identified before last season, which are:
- Have fun!
- Learn age-appropriate baseball fundamentals.
- Create a positive environment for coaches, players, and
families.
- Promote and teach the meaning of preparation, teamwork,
sportsmanship, and responsibility.
- Assure adequate batting and playing time throughout each
game.
- Promote camaraderie and coaching “passion” among all
division coaches.
- To have a fun, competitive year-end tournament for all Minor
A and Major league teams in Hoover Tyler.
- Enhance the partnership we have with the University of the
Pacific baseball program.
The success that we enjoyed in accomplishing these goals is to be
celebrated by everyone involved with Hoover Tyler. It takes many
volunteers, dedicated coaches, supportive families, and board
leadership to make all of this happen. It is our mission to make the
aforementioned priorities the culture of this fine league.
Please step up to be a volunteer. Remember that this is OUR league;
nearly all of the work done at Hoover Tyler is done by volunteers.
Our league will need your assistance and your child will admire you
for stepping forward to assist.
By taking over for our Past-President, Rick Paulsen, I realize that
I have very big shoes to fill—he provided extremely strong
leadership to our league that is greatly appreciated. I am very
motivated to build upon a great 2007, and lead Hoover Tyler to a
fulfilling 2008 season for all participants.

Minor A
Saturday, June 25, 2007
The Cardinals battled a
very tough Morada team but came up short by a score of 11 - 10.
Morada scored two runs in their last at bat to take the battle of
the two undefeated teams left in the tournament. The Minor
TOC's, being played at Sundown Little League, now has only three
teams left - Morada, Hoover Tyler and Western. Hoover Tyler
will face Western Little League on Sunday, June 26 at 1 PM at
Sundown LL. The winner of that game will face Morada in the
1st championship game on Monday.
Thursday, June 23, 2007
The Cardinals (Manager Rick Paulsen) are
still undefeated (3 - 0) after outscoring the Pioneer team, 13 - 2
on Thursday. The team was lead by the pitching and hitting of
Max Paulsen (left), who struck out 9 batters in just four innings of
work. The game was called after four innings due to the 10 run
rule. The Cardinals will next play at Sundown LL against a
very tough Morada LL team (3 - 0), which is the only other
undefeated team in the tournament, on field #1 on
Saturday, June 23 at 10 AM.

Hoover Tyler Graduate Drafted By
Philadelphia Phillies
USAF
ACADEMY, Colo. - Recently graduated Air Force first
baseman/outfielder Karl Bolt was selected by the Philadelphia
Phillies in the 15th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur
Draft Friday. Bolt is the second Air Force Academy baseball player
ever drafted in the 51-year history of the program.
A four-year letterwinner, Bolt was the 473rd selection in the
draft. Bolt joins Dallas Braden as alumni of Hoover Tyler Little
League who were drafted into the pro circuit.
As a senior, Bolt led the Falcons in hitting (.349), hits (68),
home runs (8), doubles (16), runs (34) and RBI (47). A first-team
all-Mountain West Conference selection, Bolt was also selected as
the team MVP for the second-consecutive season.
"It has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to play pro
baseball," Bolt said. "And to get the chance to fulfill my dream is
incredible. I am really excited about this opportunity, but first
and foremost, I look forward to my first assignment at Robbins AFB,
Ga., as a Logistics Readiness Officer. I fully intend to fulfill my
commitment to the Air Force and look forward to serving my country.
If somewhere down the road, there is an opportunity to play
professional baseball, I would certainly look into it.
A native of Stockton, Calif., and a product of Lincoln HS, Bolt
left his mark at the Academy, ranking amongst the top 10 all-time in
several categories. A career .334 hitter, Bolt ranks fourth all-time
in hits (232) and games played (200), seventh in home runs (33) and
eighth in RBI (148). He also ranks fourth in walks (93) and hit by
pitches (35) and fifth in total bases (390) and seventh in doubles
(47).
Mike McCann Wins Dad's Homerun Hitting

Mike
McCann, the manager of the Minor A Reds, won the first annual Dad's
Homerun Hitting Contest, held at Hoover Tyler Little League on
Saturday, May 19. Mike blasted 5 tennis balls over the fence
to claim the $100 gift certificate to Garlic Brothers.
Congratulations Mike!
Opening Ceremonies - March 31, 2007

Easter/Spring Baseball Break Begins
There will be no games played at
Hoover Tyler between Thursday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 11,
2007. Enjoy your Easter break and we'll look forward to seeing
you back at the ball park after April 11.
But...if you are itching for some baseball, the Junior team (13 &
14 year olds) would love to have your support. The Junior team
(see article below) will be playing the Rio Calaveras Junior team at
McNair High School on Monday, April 9 at 5:30 PM.
Junior Team Opens
Season with a Win!
Game 1 - March
31
Hoover-Tyler's Junior Team (13 & 14 year-olds) opened the season
with a convincing 21-2 win over the Morada Cardinal's team at
the Morada field. It was an all around team contribution with
Michael Yamuni pitching the first 3 innings and allowing only 1
earned run. Brian Lujan closed out the game with 2 innings of
run free performance before the game ended after 5 innings under
the ten-run-rule. Kyle Hanf and Noel Ambriz sparked the offense
with 4 RBI's each.
Game 2 - April 3
The Hoover Tyler Juniors played the Eastern A's team on April 3. The
Juniors were unable to complete a full game due to darkness
and the game was halted in the top of the 5th inning with
Hoover Tyler ahead by a score of 15-6. The game was stopped
with Hoover Tyler at bat, one out, and one runner on first.
Our Juniors had another great team performance and our
offense was strong. Brian Lujan went four for four, Noel
Ambriz was three for three with two doubles and a triple,
and Michael Yamuni hit a home run. Hoover Tyler had a team
total of 13 hits at the time the game was halted and Noel
Ambriz gave a strong pitching performance recording 8
strikeouts in three innings.
A special thank you to Mark Lujan Sr. for reporting
on the Junior team games.
Hoover Tyler Graduate, Dallas
Braden, Invited To Oakland A's Spring Training
January
13, 2007 - Former Hoover Tyler player,
Dallas Braden, is currently wrapping up winter league in Puerto Rico
and will be returning to Stockton next week (the week of January
15). Dallas has informed us that he has received an invitation
to attend the Oakland A's spring training in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dallas was gracious enough to throw out the first pitch at opening
ceremonies in April of 2005 (see story on the
Archived Stories
web page). That year, while playing for the Ports, he went 6 -
0 and was promoted to the the A's AA team in Midland, Texas.
Last year, Dallas spent time rehabbing his arm after an injury, but
says he is back to full strength. Dallas contacted us because
he would like to set up a single player scholarship for a child of a
single mom, in honor of his mom. The scholarship would pay for that
child's equipment needs. Dallas will be interviewed for this
website after his return and the article will appear here.
Stay tuned! Go Dallas!!

Little League Baseball Implements
Major Rule Change - Pitch Counts
Little League Baseball announced it was changing its decades-old pitching rules,
making the actual number of pitches delivered the deciding factor in determining
eligibility in the baseball division. Starting with the 2007 season, pitchers in
all divisions of Little League, from age 7 to 18, will have specific limits for
each game, based on their age. The number of pitches delivered in a game will
determine the amount of rest the player must have before pitching again.
The number of pitches allowable under the new regulation is based
on the pitcher’s age. Specific rest periods are in place when a pitcher reaches
a higher threshold of pitches delivered in a day.
The table below gives an overview of the number of pitches that
will be allowed per day for each age group during the regular season in 2007.
|
League Age |
Pitches Allowed Per Day |

17 - 18 |
105 |
|
13 - 16 |
95 |
|
11 - 12 |

|
10 & under |
75 |
The rest periods required
during the 2007 regular season are listed below.
Pitchers league ages 7 through 16 must adhere to the following
rest requirements:
- If a player pitches 61 or more
pitches in a day, three (3) calendar days of rest must be
observed.
- If a player pitches 41 - 60
pitches in a day, two (2) calendar days of rest must be
observed.
- If a player pitches 21 - 40
pitches in a day, one (1) calendar day of rest must be observed.
- If a player pitches 1-20
pitches in a day, no calendar day of rest is required before
pitching again.
Pitchers league age 17-18 must adhere to the following rest
requirements:
- If a player pitches 76 or more
pitches in a day, three (3) calendar days of rest must be
observed.
- If a player pitches 51 - 75
pitches in a day, two (2) calendar days of rest must be
observed.
- If a player pitches 26 - 50
pitches in a day, one (1) calendar day of rest must be observed.
- If a player pitches 1-25
pitches in a day, no calendar day of rest is required before
pitching again.
